Unismuh Electrical Engineering Students Hold Telecommunications and Internet Workshop for Students in Southern Thailand

**TEKNIK.UNISMUH.AC.ID, NARATHIWAT** – Students from the Electrical Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar (Unismuh), Ayu Andini, organized a Telecommunications and Internet Workshop titled “Technology That Connects the World” at Darul Hikmah School, Narathiwat, Southern Thailand. The activity was part of the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar’s International Community Service (KKN) Program, aimed at expanding students’ contributions in the field of education and technological literacy at the global level.

The workshop was designed to introduce basic telecommunications and internet concepts to students through interactive learning methods. The delivery of material was combined with visual presentations, discussions, and educational quizzes, allowing participants to understand the material more easily while actively engaging during the activity.

In the initial session, participants were given an understanding of telecommunications as a technology that enables the transmission and reception of information in various forms, such as voice, text, images, videos, and digital data. The material was also related to students' daily activities through various digital platforms they are familiar with, including LINE, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, Zoom, and other internet-based communication services.

Subsequently, Ayu Andini explained how a telecommunications system works through its three main components: sender, transmission medium, and receiver. Using simple illustrations, students were guided to understand the process of transferring information from one device to another through communication networks.

In the next session, the discussion focused on the workings of the internet. Participants received an explanation of the data transmission process, starting from a smartphone to the Base Transceiver Station (BTS), then transmitted through the internet to the server, before finally returning to the user's device. In addition, students were also introduced to the function of the BTS as a connector between mobile devices and communication networks, as well as the role of servers in storing, processing, and distributing data from various digital applications, such as LINE, YouTube, and Google.

To measure participant understanding, the activity was closed with a discussion and interactive quiz session. The enthusiasm of the students was evident from their high participation during the question-and-answer session, where they actively asked questions and were able to answer various questions related to telecommunications and internet.

Ayu Andini stated that the workshop was expected to increase digital literacy and foster students' curiosity about communication technologies that they use every day.

"Through this workshop, we want to introduce basic telecommunications and internet concepts to students so that they are not only users of technology, but also understand how the technology works and provides benefits for human life," she said.

The activity ended with a joint photo session between the International KKN students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar and the students of Darul Hikmah School as a symbol of educational collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of technology between Indonesia and Thailand.

This workshop is one form of implementation of the Electrical Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar students' dedication in supporting the improvement of digital literacy in the community, as well as strengthening the role of students as agents of knowledge and technology transfer at the international level.
